  • A couple of questions

I know a little bit about Model series guitars, but I realized I don't know much about Toothpaste logo Charvels.
Was there a reason they changed logos in 89?
I was looking at a 89 catalog on Henrik's website.
The Classic series was based off the original Model series bolt-ons?
The Contemporary series was basically the Model 7&8 plus the Predator(3dr)?
The Fusion was just the Fusion.
The Professional was a Model 5FX&6 plus the 750 XL?
Is there anything else you guys can tell me about these guitars.

the Contemporary series were the toothpaste logo Charvels, including the 275, 375, 475, 550, 650, 750 & 850. Most of them weren't based off the Model series, particularly when you try to directly compare. For example, all Contemporaries had dinky bodies compared to the Models, where all but the 3DR, 5, 6, 7, 8 & 88 had strat bodies. Actually, that sounds like a lot of Models had dinky bodies :lol but actually, most of them were strat bodies.

The Predator obviously was similar to the 3DR, the Spectrum was a rebadged Model 8

Well, your model 5 & 6 were both "soloists" so they weren't really dinkys. The model 7 was a tele. That really leaves the 3dr and the 88 as the only true model dinkys. Also, they were much more rare than the others and were not produced for the same amount of years.

The shift in 89 was more to line up the imports with the USA models - the logo changed to be more Jackson like. The charvel line would essentially morph into the Jackson Professional line.
