  • truss rods

    ooook. i am now confused.
    my model 2 truss rod.
every other guitar i've worked on has had an allen key to be inserted and used to adjust the truss.

on the M2, it looks like there has been a sheared off key, then a socket fitting. Upon closer inspection, is this just the truss rod that goes through the socket? and not a sheared allen key, but the end of the rod itself?

i don't want to take pictures because you guys know from experience what these look like.

Soooo, allen key or socket adjustment!??
i was on the verge of tapping/drilling the end until i couldn't decide WTF it was

All my J/Cs (all imports) had this type of truss rod nut.

Yep. All my J/C guitars have this. Tool looks like a smoking pipe. The size is 5/16" if I'm not mistaken.

Yep, 7mm is correct. It's possible that a 5/16" socket will work as well, but that is actually a little too large.

                Edit: 5/16" = 7.9 mm, while 2/8" = 6.3 mm.

Imports will be metric and USA's will be in inch. Make sure you use the right tool.

Import Charvels are easy. Try finding something that fits the 1/4" double truss rods in a Rickenbacker when you live in SE Asia.

All I could find were metric socket drivers and none of them would fit.

However by an absolute fluke the handle portion of the exchangeable-head screwdriver that came with my Black & Decker hammer drill fitted perfectly
