  • Tell Me What King of Charvel This Would Be

    Sorry No Pics! <Sorry Dudes>

    Anyways,

Story: I saw this Charvel in guitar center in decent shape for $150.00

    Specs:

1.) Little Charvel Logo with little script saying: by Jackson
2.) Pointy Head Stock (Painted the same color as body: Gun Metal Grey/Black, Satin, Flat Texture.)
    3.) Shark Tooth Inlays (Pearloid)
    4.) Dinky Body (not Strat)
5.) Kahler Top Mounted Floyd Copy/ with weird Kahler Nut
6.) Bolt On Neck with plate (forgot to write SN down )
7.) Rosewood Board with Maple Neck
8.) 1 Humbucker with 1 Volume ( The 1H was straight and not Tilted)
9.) looked like a Model 88 but without the Reversed Stock

The finish was weird on this thing. Don't know if its original or not, but it seemed painted with felt like Hercules Liner/ Rhino Liner ( You know rough, tough truck bed paint to protect your truck bed). Had a bumpy texture to it and was a Gun-Metal Grey/Black (Satin).

Tell me what you guys think it is.

I can't remember seeing any single pickup Charvel dinky, except for the 88. It may be a parts mutt, or something imported from the japanese market. Probably refinished as well.

Damn I feel down now, I went back to GC to see if that Charvel was still there and to grab it, It looked pretty cool and played decent.

But it was gone! Sucks! snooze you lose isn't that what they always say? But I'm still trying to figure out what it was. I found one on used GC site that is white and is exactly the same setup just a different finish and they want 600 bucks for it.

Edit: I wish I was more Charvel Educated. I know I put it to have a Dinky body not Strat and Shark Tooth but now looking at the Model 2's I'm pretty sure it was a model 2 and regret not buying it for a $150.00 bucks, I've been looking and have been seeing Model 2s go from 300-600. Oh well you live and learn, Hopefully I will be losing my Charvirginity soon to a Fine Piece of Shred Beastly Proportions.

          model 2

          Nice Guitars, Are they Yours?

But Ya Man I'm thinking your right, a Model 2 Body with the Model 4 neck.

Because at first I was pretty sure it had Sharktooth inlays (Do Again), but because I looked at alot of guitars that day and I was passing around all the guitars they had. I thought maybe i just got it confused with the other guitars I was looking at. But now that you showed a pic of a model 4 with sharktooth inlays im sure it was a parts guitar and maybe that's why it was so cheap.

The main reason I didnt jump on it for $150.00 was i didnt like the finish and how it had that rough bumpy texture to it. But after a couple of days passed, it was eating away at me and more and more. I had to have it, I thought If anything the parts where worth the 150, But oh well.

Im sure some kid saw the $150 price, Charvel name and a Floyd Copy and had to have it.

The older "Model" Series guitars seem like a really good deal, I really like the 1 Humbucker,22 Fret, Strat Body, Pointy Headstock and a Floyd Copy Top Mounted.

I just really wish Guitar Companies would really consider building more of that style of guitars. Im getting tired of seeing Recessed Floyd's on 24 fret H/s/s or H/s/H configures.

Bring back the H or H/H, Bolt On, Top Mounted Floyd, 22 Fret Demon
          HOT RODS!!!

Yeah if only somebody made those old style hot rod guitars in cool finishes with great build quality at a good price.

I know there is some H/H 22fret monsters out there like the Charvel Pros and the new Kramer Pacer. But not too many New Guitars have a 1 hum setup with 22 fret? i've only seen Gibson/Kramer, Gary Kramer and Charvel CS do it. I know its limiting to alot of players because they live on the Neck pickup, but really you get so much more power and tone when you aliminate switches/tone pots. IDK I just really like that Classic look/vibe and mindset and just wish more was around today.

Can anyone ever get anywhere close to what they paid for a new guitar?

                  No, didn't think so.
You'd need to have some kind of intangible vintage value attached to it to get your money back, and these are just too new.

Model 1's are going for more than what they were new. That's about it on the imports.

Yeah you know that's the sad fact for for new guitars. Its like buying a new car as soon as you take it off the lot the value drops. Seems even with higher cost guitars USA models or high end Japan models it will take a couple of years before they become the value of there original retail and with most Low to Mid range guitars might never go up even with inflation.

As far as Getting the most for your buck and getting the best return or investing in guitars, they say your best bet buying guitars is buying used because atleast you know you can get your money back, But buying new you will almost always take a lost.

Too much supply. They come out with new ones every few months-just changed colors.
Why the hell doesn't Eddie pick up a goddamned guitar and play something?

Thats why you need to keep abreast of the mkt on used guitars and only hit on the popular stuff if you can get it cheap enough.
I landed a 85 Fender HM/contemporary strat today for $125.00 the used mkt is $400.00- $450.00 right now so I will flip this one.
                          Really? well screw Mark Twain.
