I need other guitar like I need a hole in the head. However, this one popped up on Craigslist for $150 including original case, and I couldn't pass that up knowing how cool these are. The board has some cheese and medium light fret wear. The frets are glazed over but not rusty. They will clean up nicely. S/N is there, and the plate still has the gasket. The headstock has a couple nice chips, but the point isn't too bad. The Kahler is missing the bar and a bit rusty, but should clean up nicely. The active electronics appear to be bone stock. Everything works, including what I guess is a...JE1200? The switches are loose. I looks like it took some overspray from a solvent of some kind, and there are these little spots on the front of the body. I might be able to micromesh those off of there.

LOL. I did the exact same thing on another black 86 Model 4. The owner of a small music store had it in the basement collecting dust. Got it for about the same price too with a Chainsaw case. Unfortunately the vultures hit mine sometime over the years and it was missing the Charvel neckplate and JE1200. But I know what you mean. For that price, the money was flying out of my pocket before I had a chance to think. My gear

I had a Kahler a long time ago on a Model-series Charvel, I'm not even sure which one, possibly a Model 4, they are actually very nice tremolos, I don't care much for the string lock, though.
I can't really see the "spots" on the finish you're talking about but before you try an abrasive sheet (I know the micro-mesh stuff can be very low grit) I would maybe try some plain old rubbing compound (like fine compound, but not "swirl remover.")

Excellent find! Hi everyone Im new here, this is my first post. A buddy of mine just gave me a Model 4 body and neck today. Its has no electronics or hardware. Funny I came across this thread and whallah, theres the exact guitar I have! I dont suppose anyone would be looking to sell a khaler tremelo for cheap eh? I think Im gonna get creative and put EMG active pickups in it...though I may have to install a 5-position pickup selector rather than replace the three switches on this model. Should be a fun project! How do you post pictures on this forum/thread? Ill post up a few pics of naked model 4.
Thanks!!

Really cool, I got one from a pawn shop (also black) a couple of months ago for the same price but without the case and of course without the trem arm, I love the Kahler since my first really good guitar is my beloved model 5, anyway, contratulations, mine was in really bad shape from what appears to be a drop and very dirty and cleaned up really good and sound and plays really great, so give it a good treat and you will see what great guitar it is, congrats!

Ah great score! I love bargin CHARVELS! This past saturday i went to GC just to grab a pack of strings and wound up buying a CHARVEL SAN DIMAS standard quilt top! For the $250 w/hsc i couldnt be happier! i had never played one of these before and was floored by its awesome neck and features like the stock Duncan JB/JAZZ pups, real 1/8" maple top, quartersawn all maple neck, ect.
I never dreamed that a guitar for under a grand would impress me as much as this MIJ standard does! My other guitars are tough to compete with ( a original 81 san dimas and two usa production style 1's)
but this import holds its
own.Last edited by savage; 08-17-2009, 10:38 PM.If it's not a CHARVEL then i dont want to play it,look at it or even fuckin THINK about it!
