  • Charvel standard quilted maple

I bought a wine red quilt top standard last night for $250 and i am really liking this axe, happy to see a real maple top and not a VENEER or FOTO!
The neck is killer! All maple is my favorite. Is the fingerboard compound radius on these? Since this charvel was such a bargin i want to put some money into it like locking tuners, push/pull pot for the JB/JAZZ and maybe a better 2 point bridge?
Any love for these charvels here?

I LOVE these guitars! I had a red one probably just like yours. Later sold it to a friend and now have a blue one. Awesome guitars. My custom no-name guitar was based on the specs of the standard. The neck is perfect for me. Pics of both below. I also have another standard body that I've having a neck made for with a reverse strathead. I'm going to strip the body and put some kind of natural looking stain on it.

Here's my vid using the red quilt top I used to have. Does yours look like this?

I came up with this cool riff and made a little song out of it.

Hmm, I'm not sure. I haven't even considered it for my blue Charvel. I have the bridge floating and it stays in tune very well. Anyway, I'll try to do some measuring on my guitars later today to see if there is any difference between the bridges.

Savage, after measuring and looking very closely at both guitars, the answer to your question is... I'm not sure. The distance between the post holes seems to be slightly different, but close.

For what it's worth, I've seen a couple of Journeyman models, which have the same exact bridge, on ebay that were upgraded to a Wilkinson. So maybe they do fit fine. Someone with more technical knowledge than me should be asked. Sorry I can't give you a definitive answer.

I just have the standard tuners on mine, and it really stays in tune very well. I took it to a great tech and had him do a set up on it. Plus, I put lube in the nut which helps a lot. Unless you're planning to do major whammy action, ala EVH.

ED is my biggest influence overall including the T-bar. He is even the one that turned me on to CHARVEL back in 79!
