    Charvel MIJ- Update

hey...received the Charvel, I dropped it off at my tech this morning, lots of information...so far, The # stamped in ink inside the trem cavity is 01 27- He is almost 100% sure that the body and neck are of the SAME guitar, a Model 1 w/maple neck, originally had the standard trem unit (there were 6 little holes under the Floyd), and was later converted to a Floyd, and Kahler nut installed to compensate for the Floyd, since there was no room to install an R2 or otherwise on top. he says... "The # stamped in ink inside the trem cavity is 01 27 .. The # on the neck plate is 291290. after taking a closer look at the neck - I believe this is probably the original neck for this axe. I got curious and took off the locking nut to see if there was evidence of it being after market, and sure enough I can see the 2 holes where the truss rod cover plate was attached. I am fairly sure this is the original neck for this guitar."

Any additional info you guys may have would be greatly appreciated, thanks again!

Yep, sounds like a Model 1 converted to floyd if it has the 6 screw holes from the v-trem. Just looked at the pics... The screw-in trem posts are also a pretty solid clue, since (almost) nobody would replace the bushings/studs from a Model 2 then dowel the holes to put screw-in posts in. You should also be able to see the modification to the trem cavity to accomodate the floyd. No trem cavity cover plate in the pics, but if it still had the original one, that would also be a good indicator. On a Model 1 it would have the slot for feeding the strings though the sustain block, whereas all the floyded models had a solid cover plate with no slot.

hey dg, thanks alot for the info, yeah, it's all starting to make sense now. actually, there was absolutely no routing mod done to the cavity to accomodate the Floyd, it was all totally clean and not touched. my tech was also admiring the scarfed neck joint, which is cool. I'll post any new developments/discoveries..thanks again

Interesting! That may mean it has been re-painted at some point, because it would've needed some re-routing to fit the new trem. Whatever was done, it looks like they did nice work.

hey dg, yeah, if it was a re-paint there are certainly no signs, the body is really clean, save for a couple dings here and there. tech is also leveling a couple frets and I'll probably most likely drop in the Seymour JB, should be a killer machine in a few days. keep me posted if you have any further thoughts..thanks again!

hey dg, update from my tech, here's what he discovered, quoted: "I took a closer look at the rout and yes .. there has been some extra routing done to accommodate the OFR .. clean job ~> Interesting point about the trem coverplate ,, the V model would definitely have the holes ... " . so that definitely corresponds to what you were saying before, you know your stuff man! thanks again. any further comments appreciated
