I just bought a Charvel that on the headstock says by Jackson/Charvel with a six digit serial number. Can you please let me know if its a real Charvel and where it was made. Here are some photos

From what I can find it looks to me that it is a model 3A, and the manager at Guitar Center said it had a Kahler tremolo, I feel for 222 for shipping and a gig bag that I can return, guitar listed for 170.00 was originally 349.00 its a steal. I just bought a new maple neck Jackson with dual humbuckers for 360 and I thought that was a deal. Still, can anyone verify that its a Japanese Charvel?

I think it's MIJ based on the article i'm reading. I can't tell from the picture but it looks like your neckplate says fort worth on it. Check your PM for the site I was looking at

Yes, it's an '86 Model 3A. '86 was the only year they had that trem and a pickguard. All Model Series were made in Japan. Here are the catalog scan pages for the 3A:

So was it a good buy in your opinion for 170., I feel it is and if it plays anything like the JSX-94 I just bought, I will be very happy.

Kahlers require above par maintenance to work well.
Some love them, some not.

From the looks, the first thing I would do is take it apart and give it a good bath (WD40) and refurb.
Still a great deal.
