  • NGD!! Double Rhoads Content!

I put this in imports because it is a DK2M neck with a custom body. I ordered it a couple months ago from ulijdavid, and I must say, he does killer work! The playablility of this rivals if not surpasses my USA Dinky Custom. And, of course, paint/finish is top notch.

So here's to college football, the Utah Utes, and killer guitars!!

I didn't have the money to spring for a custom case, so the dude built a crate for it! Best packing I've ever seen!

Open it up, uh yeah, I'm pretty excited at this point!

The pieces put together but not actually put together yet:

    The finished product - NASTY!!!!

So its a double Rhoads body, alder, floyd, emg 81TW/89 DK2M Neck (with refinished red headstock). Absolutely amazing in every way! He even included pickup covers with the correct paint job if I decide I want to go with some Duncans some time in the future. Can't say enough about the quality!

I will say it is a HUGE guitar! I keep hitting my knee on the lower fin. Going to be perfect for gigging!

That looks sweet, weird knob placement though.
I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.

The original plan was 1v 1t because I thought you could have the 1v be the push/pull for both pickups or at worst the vol and the tone each be push/pull. Unfortunately, the EMGs don't work that way (after emailing them they confirmed) so we did it this way throwing the tone up top and it works pretty well.

Cool creation, but EMG's will work that way (2 knobs, one for each pickup). I have a pair of 89's and each knob can be wired to run as vol/tone or vol/vol with those pickups.

But the 89's are the splittable ones, so I imagine that has something to do with it.

              "emg 81TW/89"

Both of those pickups are splittable. The 81TW is a splittable 81.

I know that. Or were you talking to him?

As far as the EMG's go, I'm no wiring genius - but Rick Hunt from EMG emailed me and stated that both the 81TW and 89 needed their own individual push/pull volume knobs. He stated there was no way to run the 81TW and 89 with a single push/pull volume to control both. The electronics cavity was already routed and the tone was an add-on. If someone does have a diagram I would be interested in archiving it for future projects. Thanks.

Why did you not go for the more common 81/85? (Or 81/60 85/85 or whatever else you like?)

Because he wants the ones that are able to be split to get single coil sounds. They can be split by either a push/pull pot or by a mini toggle switch. I personally would have went with the switches instead, but some people like the push/pulls.

As far as I'm concerned he can stay with Dean and play his dots+fins KV copies, and whatever that aborted fetus he "designed". More like "I saw it in my puke". -Newc
