  • Jackson Professional Dinky XL refinish

I am just finishing up. It was quite a bit of work because the first owner painted the guitar with a flat black enamel over the Trans Blue finish. Of course the enamel is a bear to get off because it gums up the sand paper. The only thing I am trying to do now is get another Seymour Duncan 59 for the neck. I have a Screamin Demon for a bridge position that I might try in the middle. I have an Invader in the bridge position. I aluminum taped all of the pickup cavities and electronics cavity. I put new CTS pots and a super switch in. Can't wait to hear it.

What finish did you use? Stain, oil, or just straight clear? Looks good, Thought all the Professionals had Schallers on em with the "Pro" logo on the headstock.
      It's pronounced soops

nah, they dropped the Schallers with the toothpaste logo Charvels. The Professionals usually have a JT-580, often the Takeuchi version

I used a pre-conditioner, Early American stain by Red Devil, and a wipe-on poly. This has the 580lp. This is not the Pro model. It is the professional series but the Pro models were the top models of the Professional series. This is the mid-line model.

I take it that must be someone else on the forum who takes bad pictures like I do?

Nope. My 93 XL had a schaller. 94 is when they stoped using schaller's on the XL's.

I didn't know that! Thought it was just the Pros that had Schallers.

Although I just checked Henrik's Professional overview and it seems some of the XLs had Schallers, along with all of the Pro. I thought it was just the Pros. Although it also seems that some of the XLs came with JT-580s

                    I think this one is a 1995.

I got it finished today. I ended up with the Screamin Demon in the middle and a Hot Rails neck model. I think I am going to have to warm up to the Invader. It sounds too muddy with my Ampeg but opens up more with my Bedrock. The Screamin Demon sounds ok in the middle. It really comes out to about what I expect of a middle. I was hoping to be able to use it as more of a second bridge but I think the output and flavor hold it back from that. The Hot Rails sound great. Nice and full with good clarity.

Would a Schaller be an improvement for this guitar or a lateral move?
