Unfortunately, I think that the former is the way things are going to roll...
About two years ago, the distributor for Fender in Japan also became the distributor for Jackson Stars. I'm thinking that FMIC will flex their corporate muscle to uniformize the MIJ Jacksons for the Japanese market to be the same as the Pro series.
At the Tokyo guitar show this past spring, I asked the guys from Chushin Gakki (the Japanese Jackson factory) whether they're bringing the custom shop back, and they said that it was very unlikely, because FMIC didn't want there to be two custom shops associated with the brand.
All I can say is, I'm glad I got my Jackson Stars semi custom when I did

If you look at the site using the "Special Sale" filter, you'll see that although the guitar above is on sale for 100800yen at the Akihabara store, the same guitar has a price tag of 98000 at their Shibuya store.
