  • DXMG or DR-3

I am new here and about to buy my first Jackson ever. I now own a LTD and i need a backup guitar. In my area (netherland/europe) there are 2 jackson available that have my interest. A nice green Jackson DR-3 with DD103 humbuckers and a black DXMG with a DKMG neck and passive EMG-HZ humbuckers. They cost about the same. Which one is better and why.

The dr3 probably has a better trem and the other has better pickups. I think the dr3 doesn't have neck binding. both good guitars.

the white/ivory edging around the edge of the fretboard. It looks better then no binding, it can cover sharp fret ends are the advantages. Other then that it's feel. Only 2 out of my 15 guitars have it.

I like the neck on the DXMG better from a looks perspective. Also, I bought one used for 30 days from GC and it was a very nice axe. I didn't think the EMGs were as bad as everyone says they are.

ok, but this particular DXMG has a non-stock DKMG neck (pirana inlay?). Thanks for your help so far.

The DKMG is a more expensive guitar. I really liked the feel of the dkmg that I have played, but I have never played a dr3(I have a usa dr2 though). I don't like reverse sharkies myself.

I would lean more towards the DXMG mutt but they are close in quality. Both are made in the same factory.

I had a DR3, and it was a great guitar. Same trem as the DXMG, the stock pickups suck, and the neck profile is pretty thin, very Ibanez like. I think they had Poplar bodies, which mine was a lot heavier then other Alder bodied guitars I've owned. I like them, very well put together.

Yesterday i bought what was advertised as a DXMG for € 210, it turns out to be an early model DKMG with EMG-HZ and the EMG Afterburner. Sounds killer!

Congrats! You'll find that a lot of retailers, and guitarists in general get quite confused over all the different Jackson models! Stick around here and you will increase your knowledge.

JTB was one step ahead, otherwise i had bought this guitar.
Congrats JTB it was a steal, i really like the piranha inlay, i'm now in the run for a DK2FF (flame inlay) and a white Fusion SS Professional, both selling an a local market place.

I joined this place mainly because of the confusion around Jackson Guitars, hope to learn a thing or two mainly about the Dinky or Dinky alike (Fusion, Soloist, San Dimas).
