  • DXMGT, JS20, SDK2 Super Dinky serial number help

I have a handful of Jacksons, most of which I can date when I purchased them or by serial number, but there are three I cannot (or need confirmation). The three are:

    DXMGT serial number 9731785
    SDK2 serial number 504009
    JS20 serial number 65002013

The DXMGT has the tobacco sunburst finish, EMG-HZ (anyone know if they are OEMs or H3, H3As or H4s?), JT390 black TOM, white neck binding and the 3+3 headstock (should I post some pics?).

The Super Dinky (SDK2) is gun metal gray with a JT-580 Takeuchi and Kent Armstrong pickups (JX2N, WP112 and JX2B). I believe it is an early 1996, but I am not certain.

The JS20 was my first new guitar I ever purchased (and first electric after playing acoustic for a decade), I saved up $200 sophomore year of high school and purchased the JS20, which should have been in 1996. I believe the serial number starting with 6 indicates that also, but I'm not certain. It's a standard black JS20 Dinky with the 2 point trem and stock pickups (never changed anything on it...I was too poor then to do anything and why change it now?) but she still sings when I play her.

Any help with dating is much appreciated (how do you guys date off serials anyway, I only have been able to find the catalogs and I look visually at each year).

JS20 probably 1996 but it's hard to tel with that ser#, later Indian ser#s first 2 digits denote the year, are you sure it starts with 65?

I thought the SDK2 only started in 1996 and ran into 1997?

The first digit of the MIJ 6 digit plate is the year. Just because the first catalog was 96 doesn't mean anything. The catalog was for 94-95 so anything is possible. There are lots of models configs that never reached a catalog.

Does that change the likelihood that it is a 1996 JS20? I'm glad I could help out the community, I have leached here for a long time, it's always nice to add something to the group.

                      It's very possible it's a 96.
That was the year the JS20 was introduced.

It may have the production date stamped on the neck heel or the neck pocket. This would require you to take the neck off of course.

The neck heel and neck pocket do not have any date codes or any other writing on them other than a red pencil / marker line that seem to match one another (like a check mark). I'm pretty certain I purchased the JS20 in 1996 and I was attracted to purchase it because I pined for a Jackson since the late 80's and I read somewhere that Jackson had just created a new inexpensive Dinky and lucky for me it was in my price range after a summer of savings.

I have heard this before about the lower end lines, can't remember if it was The Made in India models or? So, I'm thinking the "Take the neck off and check for the date stamped there" advice should only apply to Japanese & USA guitars (bolt-ons). You veteran JCFers agree with me?

                              I think you're right Ron.
I've never seen the heel of any Made in Taiwan Jackson, so it I figured it was worth a shot asking.
