  • Problem please help

well i just put a new input in and than went to look at my pickup wiring and my friend took the wiring off the pot, now it won't stick back on too the pot.. Idk what i should do, any ideas?

I am thinking about just getting two new pots, since i need too anyways but not sure yet.

Im using a 25W soldering iron. And the same exact solder i used too put my pick up in.. Also I just installed the input with the same soldering gun and solder and it worked fine.. so i really have no idea why the solder won't stick?

Try rubbing the back of the pot with a file or knife or something, then resolder.

I'm guessing you're not getting the pot hot enough but I don't want to tell you to heat it more because it's not that hard to ruin a pot by making it TOO hot.

Tough to do with a 25 watt.
I have an inexpensive Radio Shack 20/40 soldering station that works good enough.

Get a hotter soldering iron. You want to get in and get out quick. You don't want the 25w iron to sit there and heat, and heat, and heat until the pot until it's fried.

What kind of solder are you using? What wattage is the iron? Are you using flux?

I suggest 60/40 rosin core solder.
                Stock up before it's outlawed.

Does solder melt to the tip of the iron? If yes, tin the iron with solder, and try resoldering the pot. If no, the iron is broke or the tip may be loose.

well, i just got the solder at some cheap 99 cent store and i used it to put my pickup on and it worked fine and the same soldering iron.

but now that someone told me what type of solder too get, and i needa hotter gun helps.

how many watts should i get?

and i think i needa new pot
im going to buy two anyways so ill need the right gun and solder.

I recently got the 20/40 Radio shack iron and that 40W makes a huge difference. Soldering is fun now instead of frustrating.
