  • SL3 love? Post pics etc!

The SL3 doesn't seem to get as much love on here as the DK2 etc, and I don't understand why. My SL3 is better than any other import Jackson I've owned - KE3, DK2, DK2M, JDR-94, RR3.
The SL3 just sounds and plays so much better than any of those other guitars (mine has the JT580 on it BTW), every time I pick it up I'm blown away at how fantastic an instrument it is.
Yet, like I say there's not many posts about it. There's a big thread all about DK2s, so how about one for the undervalued SL3?!

The lack of binding really doesn't seem to matter, in the finish I have anyway. Maybe on a black one or something it would look worse, but on mine it seems to work without it.

JB bridge, SSL-1 middle, Hot Rails neck.

    That's not saying much

On a Jackson, I like ebony, MOP sharkies, binding, neckthru / set neck.

This has one of the four.

For imports, I have Fusion Pros, 750XL; many others here have Model 6s, Soloist Pros, etc. SL3 is a fine beginner neck thru, but leaves too much to be desired for those of us with too many guitars

On a guitar, I like great playability and killer sound, which just about every Jackson I have played has. My Kelly has none of the four that DonP mentioned, but is still one of the best shredding guitars I have seen.

Sorry, MartinBarre1, I have no exprerience with the SL3, so I can't contribute pics to the cause, but yours looks sweet to me. What's the price range for these?

I agee with Don I need my Jacksons to ebony , binding and MOP inlays and logo . I am just a ebony board snob . I hate the way rosewood looks so it is a instant turn off for me . The other thing is for a price of a new one you could pick up a used USA for the same or a little more .

I don't know how much they cost in the USA, but they're about £700 new over here although I got mine for £500. It's a lot for an import but I'm afraid we don't get guitars as cheap as you guys in the USA.

I don't really understand the import bashing here, in the import section, seems kinda weird.

Seriously, what was the point in you posting all that? You think all import Jacksons are shit, fine. Why bother posting in this section at all then, other than to rub my nose in the fact I can't afford a USA Jackson?

No import bashing from me. I wish they still made the SL4 as I prefer the H/H layout over the H/S/S of the SL3. And I don't mind rosewood boards either.

I was not bashing the imports I own quite a few , eight at the moment . But they are all older PROs , which have the specs I like. If you are happy with the way it plays and sounds that is all that really matters . Hell my favorite Jackson is the USA SLS (24.75 scale version) which not a lot of people like because of the headstock .

The other thing is the DK2 is "cheap" to begin with and even cheaper used . My guess is more entry level players opt for the bolt on due to the price. And people with more funds jump right a USA model , bypassing the SL3 . That would be my guess on why you do not see a lot of love for the SL3 at least here in the states .

That's an excellent point which I never considered, not being from the US. The SL3 is wasted on the USA market I suppose.

I am rather fond of mine. Mostly for the neck. It is very thin yet still fits my hand quite well. One of my favorite guitars.

Yours has a thin neck? Weird, mine has the fattest neck of any of my guitars!

That's a lovely colour too mate.

Show me where I said that? Did I not say I have Fusion Pros and a 750XL, and an RR24M, and that I love Kelly Pros, AT Pros, Soloist Pros?

Because you asked about an SL3 and I gave you my opinion. You asked why there isn't much love for the SL3, and I answered it.

If the truth hurts, don't ask.
