  • My frankenstein-ish baby ^^

First things first: I'm new here so: Hi everyone ^^

And now the reason why I made this post:

You'll have to excuse the Schecter in the picture :p , but I don't have any decent shots of my Jackson.

I don't really know what model it is, so I thought I'd ask some help here.
    Things I do know:
    - Seymour duncan pick-ups: (neck)Distortion- lil' 59 - JB(bridge)
    - Tremsetter
    - Custom made Pickguard and Truss rod cover
    - The previous owner had used a black marker of some sort to hide the 'performer' text on the headstock(I removed that by now)
    - serial# :5000594
    - Licensed Floyd Rose
    - 24 fret
    - Schaller straplocks

I only paid €250($365.50)two years back and got a free leather guitar strap and some old Les Paul-type case.
    Hardly a bad deal,I think?

Any idea's on what she was originally?

Where is this serial number located at? If it's on the neck plate, does the neck plate say Jackson on it (or are you sure this is the serial number)? I believe there are only two types of 7 digit Jackson serial numbers, the 1996+ MIJs, but those all start with 9 and MIK Performers (which your neck is from, because it has the wide dots at the 12th fret) which all start with 0 or 1. The neck definitely looks like a 1995-1998 MIK Performer, but the serial doesn't match.

      Yup, it's on the neckplate.

Wow, I have no idea...I don't even see how a serial could start with 5 unless it's a 6 digit serial (MIJs 1990 to 1995). We'll have to wait for someone with more knowledge about serials to come along (I can't wait because I have no idea what your guitar is).

Am I correct in assuming it's a PS-2 neck then?

Is it maybe just a normal PS-4 but with an added pickguard?
Whatever it is, I bet it sounds GOOD.

How's the lil 59 in the middle?

It was good, but the wiring is fried and I think it shorts out to the ground somewhere in this mess:

I'll rewire it when my exams are over (somewhere in February). Just don't have the time to fix it. And she sounds very good indeed. I'm afraid I might need a refret somewhere next year though. Frets are barely over 1mm ( 5/127 inch) high. Redressing wont cut it I'm afraid

Edit: don't think it's a PS-4. It has a bathtub rout, not a control cavity in the back.

I still cannot figure anything out about the serial number, a seven digit serial should not start with a 5? It is outside of the range of anything I can think of. Does anyone have any ideas? Whatever it is, it looks like it was the 594th made (so maybe a low production count / rare Jackson in some weird place....lol, is this a fabled Indonesian Jackson?).

Any chance you want to take off the neck and see if there are any markings / model / date info in the neck pocket and on the heal of the neck?

Since I just restrung/intonated/etc etc... I'd rather not. Going to check when I rewire her.

Please post when you do, I for one would be very interested in what you find (take a picture or two also).

I picked up a Jackson Dinky EX Professional (1993-1995) today that looks a lot like your mystery Jackson (well, no wide MIK 12th fret dots). Maybe another model possibility...also a bump in case anyone knows anything about this mystery serial number outside of any normal range (5000594 ... 7 digit serial).

I know what you mean, it bothers me when I don't know what to do with data....I saw another odd serial on an MIK Performer at a pawn shop ( 9403766 ), I almost purchased it just to take the neck off....but I'll never pay $300 for a beat-up PS3 MIK (no matter how "rare" it is). I suspect some of these odd out of range serial numbers are swapped necks with later MIJ Performer bodies / neck plates.

Ordered the necessary parts yesterday. If they get here before Sunday I can fix her up, if they don't I can only start next weekend.
