What's the purpose of the Stereo jack?

When you plug in the cable, it turns on the active circuit. So it is active anytime you have the cable plugged in and if you don't remove it, it will kill your battery.

To swap out the actives for passives, you'll also need to replace all of the pots...actives use 25k pots rather than 250k or 500k pots.

Unless you get a set of Duncan Dave Mustaine Live Wires... they use 100k pots.
