  • Buying my first Jackson, Questions??????

Hi looking at buying my first Jackson looking on ebay at the moment. My budget is around the $400 to $500 mark. The models I have seen that will ship to Australia are these:

    DXMG
    DK2 Dinky
    DK2M

What are the things to look for or watch on these models?

    Cheers Thomo,

Nothing, they are all good models very similar to eachother and made in the same plant in Japan. On the DXMG though, the first year it was made in India, so stick to 9 digit serial #s that start with 9 to get the Japanese models.

I personally prefer alder to basswood, so I'd go with one of the DK2's rather than an X-series.
I only need one more guitar.

Cheer guys, looking at new one's two spend a couple of hundred more, is there a new model in the $700 to $800 which stands out?? Most of the shipping freight is around $150 to $200 hundred mark, the trick to importing a guitar too Australia is to keep it under $950 with shipping.

Try any of the 3 series imports off ebay. Even new, I find sometimes eBay has stuff for cheaper or mint stuff for cheaper.

            I'd reccomend saving for a USA, but if you're really on a budget, go for a 3 (RR3, SL3, SLAT-3)
            I like EL34s.

I'd also keep an eye on the Ishibashi U-box, you can get some really nice Japanese market Jacksons and Stars on there for reasonable money, plus shipping to Australia isn't that bad.

I got my JStars SLTN-02 (soloist), shipped to NZ for around 65k Yen (plus the GST).

Grouping the RR3 with the SL3 or SLAT-3 in your recommendation makes no sense. The only thing these guitars have in common is the number "3". The SLs are neckthrus and are more akin to the RR5 and KE5, which are not part of your recommended "3" series. The RR3 has more in common with the DK2.

The RR3 and KE3 are pitched at the same level as the DK2. They are not "one better" than the DK2. It's just that the RR2 & KE2 designations had already been given to US guitars.

i agree, a RR3 is basically a DK2 with 2 less frets and a different body (also no neck binding)

Also, it will be next to impossible to get a SL3 or SLAT-3 into australia for around $400-500 AUD, looking more like $1500 unless you get a real good deal, new these guitars list for about $2000

I think the best deal is a DK2, great guitar espescially if you get one with the std seymour duncans, also i dont really like bolt on V shaped guitars, the heel sticks out quite a bit

Cheers, and good luck finding your jackson

Very nice. I just put a down payment on a DK2 myself.

True, sir! I got the impression he was looking for a fairly new one for some reason, although looking back at the post I guess I didn't have any reason to.

I actually think some of those Indian guitars aren't that bad.

I personally love the crimson swirl and looks like the shipping to AU is only $90. Give them a call to verify that but looks like a good deal for you..
