  • Jackson RR5FR hardware change

Over the past couple of days I've been debating my Jackson RR5FR's hardware from black to gold. I have blacked it out as much as possible with the exception of the fretboard, frets, & Jackson logo .

I've been browsing the Jackson V threads and have been finding that every time I look at the black Rhoads w/ gold hardware I like it even more. So the question stands, keep it blacked out, or add the gold hardware including the pickguard, knobs, Gold OFR & locking nut, tuners, knobs, output jack trim piece, or to even go as far as to get humbucker rings?

Here's a pic of the girl before the black humbucker adjustment screws.

    So what does everybody think?

I like black hardware, me thinks gold looks to pimpish. But, to each his own, if you like gold, then go for it.

I'm strange like this but if it has a floyd and a pickguard, I like black on black more but if it's a V plate and a pickguard I prefer gold on black... I'm odd like that but on that, I say black.

I know if I stay black it will save me a lot of money! I already have a RR5 in Ivory w/ black stripes and gold hardware so I was kinda leaning towards leaving this black but the more I look at the gold accented ones the more I like it. I guess I should just stop looking at them. Thanks for the advice!

If you like the gold, then do it, it's your guitar.

I'm not usually a "blackout" fan, but on certain guitars, it just works. On this one, it works...don't change it.

Black definitely works on that axe. I wouldn't change a thing, bro.

Thanks for the advice, I think i've chosen to keep it the way it is. I've also done this to my metallic black RR1 and of course with the ebony fretboard it looks even better. Comparing the two makes the rosewood fretboard stick out like a sore thumb on my RR5FR. But then again the RR1 has the white binding on the neck and headstock which also sticks out. So its a toss up.

I couldn't think of blackout to save my life when I posted this. The only thing that came to mind was the ricer terminology "murdered out"

Gold except for the pickup rings and knobs. Might be a tad excessive IMO with the gold Floyd AND control plate. Plus, the black knobs will stand out better on the gold plate, providing needed contrast so you don't have this one huge "blob" of gold in one spot.

Hey, it worked for Randy Rhoads, it can work for you.

Though you might also consider chrome. Silver + Black = Classic.

I think gold looks better on natural and (some) transparant finishes

Either black or gold hardware work fine on a black Rhoads. My old RR1T had all gold/brass (with a big old-school TOM bridge), but I actually preferred it with the black pickguard on it.
