  • Replacing Seymour Duncan STK-1 single coil pickups on a Dinky DK2 HSS

I recently bought a Jackson Dinky DK-2 guitar in HSS configuration and i'm happy with the guitar in general. However, i still dont get used to the lack of sustain and warmth of the 2 single coil Seymour Duncan STK-1 pickups on the neck and middle position. I am aiming to reproduce Steve Vai 's tone in Tender Surrender both clean and distorted.

What would be the recommendation for single coil replacement that provides sustain and warmth?

Have you tried adjusting the height of the pickups?

I don't know about the Vai tone, but I'd put a Duncan Hot or Cool Rails in the neck. I like to leave the middle as a single coil, you have a great variety of tones with a setup like that.

what is the correct height for all three pickups in this guitar? neck, middle and bridge? Should i get any special ruler to measure the height? Please be advised that it has the HSS configuration.
