  • Top mounting 580LP?

Hi, I am currently building a EVH frankenstrat and I have everything but a floyd rose. I have it set up with a 6 point tremolo and vintage nut right now, waiting to find the right floyd rose before I go to routing and drilling.

Anyway, I saved the floyd rose purchase last. I wanted to get an original floyd rose or a gotoh but my jackson that has a 508lp low profile bridge stays in tune fine. So can I put on of these on a strat style guitar without routing?

    Thanks

Sure. You just need the taller trem block. Usually it's the 42mm.

I put one (a '94 with the squared off plate) in place of a JT6 non-recessed on my Model 6 and it works great on a non-recessed body.
DonP - Do you know if the vintage block route would be in the same for a JT580LP? I would suspect he'd probably need some routing for the block, no?

The neck needs to be tilted back on guitars with non-recessed Floyds. You're going to need the longer block, and the Floyd will be higher off the body than with the V-trem or a recessed Floyd.

I've heard some routing is needed going from v-trem to Floyd, but I'm think it's fairly light.

Somebody over on the VK forum top mounted a 580lp on a barretta/focus mutt and didn't have to. Wish i could find that thread...
