  • Tell me more about the SL4, its predecessors and alternatives

As the title says, I want to know a bit more about the SL4, what came before it and what alternatives you would consider.

It's made in Japan, and has no binding if I recall. Dual hums.

    Alternative? Hmm...let me see....an SL2H?

that about covers it. rosewood instead of ebony, jt580...not a bad guitar. there isn't a direct alternative. closest would be an early '90s professional soloist....
      GEAR:

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

The SL4 only has 22 frets, if you care about stuff like that.

wasn't the sl4 indonesian or something like that? I recall seeing the country of manufacture and thinking to myself "I though that was MIJ... weird...".

The Charvel Model 5 was a 2-hum neck-through as well, right? and with a price-tag rather significantly lower than an SL2H, I'm thinking (since Charvel at the time seemed to be to Jackson what Epiphone is to Gibson, but I might be off by a mile or two)? Were most cheaper-than-a-car neckthroughs HSS designs?

The SL4 was Japanese. I'd say the Model 5 is comparable to the SL4, just two extra frets. The Model Series weren't cheap by any means, and lots of people here love them.

hmm... I'm thinking starting this thread might have been a bit dumb... Seems I'm not familiar enough with J/C to even ask the question I asked is there any good place for information on the various J/C guitars (and the neck-throughs in particular)? Something along the lines of vintagekramer.com?
