Short scale the reflex pickups in this guitar are very dark and in my opinion smooth very nice. It's a good change from my 86 soloist custom which is about to go under the classifeildd section. But I guess there all short scale. I'm very impressed with the craftsmanship in this guitar inlays look awesome no black filler. The tops look amazing, more brown than I usually see on Jackson tops. When I pulled the neck pickups out the top was very thick iwill take some pictures
