  • What is the major difference between a KV5FR and a KV2?

They look exactly the same, I know the KV5FR is made in Japan and has the Korean Floyd Rose and the KV2 is U.S.A. made and has the German Floyd Rose but what is the major difference? A KV5FR is considerably cheaper than the KV2 considering they have basically the same appearance and hardware to an extent. So what is the major difference?
Why such a big price gap? Thanks.

I haven't seen or touched the KV5FR so I can only assume build quality. A USA Jackson is a seriously sweet guitar.

The major difference between the two is as you said, the former is made in Japan while the latter is USA.
The KV5FR also has a rosewood fretboard and no binding (though i'm pretty sure they've started added binding to the newer Pro series models) whereas a KV2 has an ebony fretboard and ivoroid binding. I think the inlay materials are different too but i'm not sure.
It's all about the blues-rock chatter.

I own a KV5FR pre binding(oh boy do I regret not waiting two weeks and getting the version with bindings), but I've never tried a USA. THe closest I've come to one is my 1990 Soloist Professional and they should be just like the USA ones. Comparing my Soloist and my King V with eachother tells me that the KV5FR is a very good guitar and on par with the "USA quality" Professional.

Doesn't the KV5FR have a FRT-2000 Floyd, not an OFR? In any case, I'd rather just buy a used USA Jackson for less than a new import.

USA- ebony FB, MOP inlays and logo, I think better switches and pots, german OFR, graphics front, back, and neck, MIA MOJO

MIJ- rosewood FB, MOTO inlays, silkscreened logo, FRT-2000, graphics on front, MIJ

Bad ass guitars they are, IMO.

+1 I just got a mint condition 2008 KV2 from a motivated seller for less than what KV5s are going for on the bay!
