    Good advice on the photos. I skip over auctions with terrible shots. The case sold separately seems common on ebay but keep in mind that some people (like me) usually pass on guitars without cases.

      I don't have trouble selling stuff on Ebay. I'm just a hobbyist and hadn't sold a guitar on there for a couple years, but it is time to "thin the herd". From what I've read about the gear market, I thought it would be a disaster. Anyway, in the last month, I've sold three guitars and made money on two of them. I lost $25 on the 3rd. And I play everything I buy, so there were some dings and stuff that weren't on them when I bought'em.

      As has been said, the key to selling is all in the listing/photos. I spend around two to three hours setting up a listing. I post 10 to 20 quality photos and write a detailed description that isn't too windy or strung out, but cuts to the chase. I think about what *I* want to know when buying a guitar and what makes me want to bid/buy. And I incorporate that into my listings. I also offer a 3 day return privilege if not as described, but I've never had a guitar returned in 13 years on Ebay. A return policy adds that little extra bit of confidence to the buyer. With buyer protection, the buyer has a return option no matter what you post in the auction. Might as well create the goodwill of offering it up front.

      Oh yeah, I never post entire serial numbers. I show the first 3 or so digits, but never the entire serial number.

        For the most part, I don't buy or sell guitars unless they have a case. Might make exception for something really cheap (under $300), but I don't buy/sell much in that range anyway. Even then I'd want at least a gig bag if only for the extra protection during shipment. If somebody is selling a $750+ guitar without a case, I'm most likely gonna move on to the next listing.

          Personally I too buy guitars with cases, but thats me being the buyer I am. Trouble offering the case with the guitar is you don't get any extra value. granted many people will pass over the listing becuase it doesn't have a case, but if you have the guitar the buyer really wants, with or without a case, he/she's going to buy it.

          With ebay, there's really no bad time or good time...let me explain that.... You're a buyer....If guitars are selling for crap, you're buying guitars cheap, as a seller, that same cheap bought guitar with a little better listing, a little better pictures, and a little better ...mojo..I guess, will bring you a little more money than you paid for it. Typically, if I buy a guitar on ebay, I sell it locally, if I buy a guitar locally I sell it on ebay...then comes a 90's Jackson..and I can't bring myself to sell it..I gotta get over that...

          Now don't get me wrong, I buy guitars to PLAY them, I can't help it if I got a bad case of GAS. Once i hit 25 guitars I have to have a one in one out policy.... else wifey stops putting out

            Well, I finally said "screw it" for E-Bay. A guy e-mailed me this evening and said that he had it on his Watch List and asked if I had sold it. I told him no and that I gave up, but if he really wanted it, I would relist it at the last BIN for one day. So we'll see.

            This was my first attempt to sell anything on E-Bay and I'm sorely disappointed. This guitar is 100% brand new condition and I asked $250.00 to $400.00 less than the usual going rate and still no takers.

                Sadly now as I found out quickly that some buyers have figured out that if they claim damage or something misrepresented, they threaten neg feedback trying to barter for 20-50 refund since they know they have nothing to lose as a buy, the seller can no longer leave neg feedback for buyers, thats part the reason I went to no return policy... when asked for pictures of the damage most just disappear, I had a 95 Jackson Professional Kelly come back to me with with the body and the neck split in half, funnny thing was the shipping box didnt show any sign of being dropped so hard it would cause that damage...put me out $290 though...now I buy insurance and state all damage claims to be handled by buyer, haven't had any more issues...broke my cold black heart to see that jackson come back like that...

                    My comments in that post were written as a whole and not with parts to be taken out of context. Part of the other side of offering a return policy is to also take a lot of quality pics and write a thorough description like was mentioned. Then pack the instrument well and always pay for insurance and a direct signature. If they claim damage, offer to work out a claim with the shipping carrier. If they try feedback extortion, report them to Ebay. End of story. Sounds like you're now on the right track with your terms and sorry to hear about that damaged guitar. That would indeed be frustrating.

                      I quit selling on Ebay years ago.Just use whatever forum I am on to sell or trade.
                      You target your product in the area it should sell it the quickest.
