  • Help dating two newer DKMGs? anyone have one to compare to?

Im going to order a used DKMG from guitarcenter and theres two, one comes with a case the other doesnt, i think the one with the case might be older, thats why theyre throwing in the case. Id rather get the newer one since theyre in the same price range.

    w/ case $350 s/n 9681849
    w/o case $320 s/n 9690900

    any help please?

9690900 is newest but does it matter? It's not like there are several years between them. Got pics?

        Pics will always help.

The serials alone won't tell much unless you're a geek like us :-)
Judging from the serials, I'd say 2003, EMG-HZ, alder body, bound rosewood fingerboard, JT-580LP trem.

        Bottom one:

well if you say so :P the first one is the $320 one
and i dont get it, what does 290-0100 mean on that '03 dkmg?
EDIT: the fuck? theyre passive emg's? what year did they start putting active's into them?
wait that third knob down is the 20db boost right? so that means that these are active?

The older models were passive EMG-HZ's with (I think) the PA-2 booter installed. The knobs are volume/tone/boost if I recall correctly. The newer ones have regular EMG's and only volume/tone knobs.

See, pics got you thinking I'm on my coffee break...

You could start browsing catalogues if you want to widen your Jackson knowledge. For this model, look for the 2002-2006 Jackson catalogues:

                  Yes, EMG-HZ's are passive.

And, IMO, those EMG-HZ passives sucked out loud. I dumped em for some Blackouts, and left the boost knob unconnected.

In which year did they come with booters? Did they kick ass? Did the Forest Green and Trans Green models come with boogers? The MG series came with a 20db boost named, "Turbocharger" as a push-pull pot. Pull to activate, turn to alter amount. It is not the PA-2.

I believe that 290- number is Jacksons part number for the guitar.

The After Burner is ok, and the H4 is ok too. Its personal preference really. I like the H4 in my DKMGTFF. It to me, has a PAF-y sound and chug to it.

and what does the TFF after DKMGTFF stand for?

can you add a coil split to 81/85's?
