  • Question about fitting a single coil to HSH JACKSON

Hello everyone! I've recently purchased a Jackson ATX (or at least it looks just like the guitar in this thread) and I've been thinking about changing the pickups. I've already bought Seymour Duncan Custom (TB-5) for the bridge position and the Jazz (SH-2N) for the neck position. Anyway I'd also like to change the middle pickup (single coil) to make the axe more versatile.

The pickup I've been thinking about buying is Seymour Duncan SSL-2 RW/RP but when I saw a picture or it I became a bit confused and I'm not really sure if it will fit to the existing pickup cavity (if you check the link you'll see the cavity I'm talking about) since it looks a bit out of shape. So... Do you think it would fit or not? If not can you recommend me something else (looking for (hum cancelling) stratty sound in the positions 2, 3 and 4).

    Thanks in advance!

Nevermind I found one... I think you need to find a pickup that is back wired?

You'll need to get one of the newer-designed Duncans that don't have the triangular base on them.

Sorry for the links (they seem to look blue to me but grey for you).

Anyway thanks for the fast answer! I'll try to find one of that kind. Too bad I have to skip a good offer on SSL-2.

There are some of the SSL line that come without the little lip - from memory the SSL5 and 6 don't have it.
The vintage rails would be a decent choice as well, the newer versions of that IIRC dont have the lip.

This was done to the SD Hot Rails fitted in the middle position in my Charvel CX592 when I bought it. It had the old version of the Hot Rails, with the cloth tape covered coils, not the later fully enclosed type.
                A Charvel CX592, Jackson JS20 and a Jackson DK2, amongst others....

I actually have a fusion that the previous owner seemed to have gouged out a hole under the top to fit 'lipped' singles
