Bone nut on JRR-94 Concept... ??

I'd go with a graphite nut.

What type of bridge is on this?

Is it a behind the nut string lock or a V trem or a fixed bridge?

JRR-94 fixed bridge.

With a fixed bridge, bone is nice. But it will cost a bit, and you'll mostly notice it on open strings.

I'd say compare that price with a graphite nut price.

I am a novice on guitars... trying to get this thing set up for my son. I really hope I'm not getting taken to the cleaners on this job. This is what the shop said,, Bone nut to improve tone, test all electronics, "wash" the pots, dress the frets, straighten the neck, replace the jack, and do a set up...

A bone nut doesn't exactly "improve " tone. Maybe over things like Corian or plastic, but it's just a different sound than other nut materials like brass, nickel, graphite, ivory etc.

Check out Earvana first. That is the only nut that gave me an instantly measurable improvement in my tone and every gig since I added them to most of my guitars. I am working toward them all being upgraded by christmas.

And try to find a brass bridge. It will do amazing things for your tone that a piece of bone can't. Thats what Kirk Hammet has on his RR
