I don't care what year, I just think I need one. After I up close and personal handled a odd colored, very thin burst ,opaque orange pattern with a ridiculous amber/yellowish 3d flame maple top. I found the neck really comfortable.

Glave, you keep smashing the history with those two axes of yours. I was hoping you wouldn't see this thread
Seriously, how about we document it for future reference with pictures? I would gladly host pictures of both on audiozone.dk.
The Kelly STD is rare and a 7-digit Rhoads EX is too.
If you agree, close-ups of the serials + pictures of the guitars front and back etc. would be great.
Have you ever looked inside the neck pocket of both?

Also, remember some bolt-ons got stickers with serial numbers and not neck plates. I've seen stickers with "neckthrough Pro" serials (J000xxx).
Wasn't there a Kelly model that had recessed/flushmount neck bolts, and thus no plate, and thus a serial sticker?
And despite the "official release date" of March 1990, you HAVE to have a production lead-time AND a shipping-to-all-the-dealers lead-time.
Now, it's possible Jackson had whoever mills their plates stamp them with a pre-determined range of numbers. It's also possible they had someone in the USA running a plate stamper and shipped them to Japan, or they all went through Ft Worth for final assembly.
It's also possible they had dealers from all across the country ordering these things, which means you need a lot of them built and ready to ship AND you need to actually ship them from Japan economically (which means slow and cheap - by boat).
Then they've got to be offloaded, then trucked to and inspected by HQ in Ft Worth to make sure they survived the trip, and then rerouted to the various dealers.
That doesn't happen by wishing, it takes manpower. It also doesn't get done by a crack squad of specialists - it gets done by people who also have other work to do, which means it takes more time.
That means thousands of Jackson Professionals sitting in a staging area in Ft Worth from at least January of 1990 to mid-February being inspected and tested and set up, and then shipped to dealers all across the country in time for the March release date.
For that to happen, you have to build them ahead of time.Last edited by Newc; 05-17-2011, 07:19 AM.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood
