  • 90's professional with a 2 in front of the serial.

I'm buying a KV Pro, and it has 2 stamped before the serial number. So it reads like "2J40XXXX".

Is this some kind of factory second stamp or something like that? I've never seen or heard about anything like this before.

Looks like a factory 2nd stamp to me.

I have never seen it on an import. Does the guitar have any obvious flaws, like paint flaws etc.?

I had a 2 stamped on a '94 Dinky HX. Not sure if it was done from the factory like that. The guitar was identical to my other one, and there was nothing wrong with it at all.

I had a 2 like that stamped on a model 2 (around the same area of the fretboard) and it played true with no issues. I assumed it was a factory 2nd with a paint blem or something. Never bothered me since I bought it in "well used" condition. I can snap a photo of it tonight if it would be helpful but it looks just like the photo above without the serial number next to it.

tcwil8, if it's not too much of a hassle, I would appreciate a photo of it. I might include the info on my J/C site and a photo is the best validation you can have.

You had a model 2, yet you can snap a photo of it? Eh..?

Not too much hassle. I'm on the west coast so it won't be until later tonight.

Good catch. Damn you're detailed. I turned it into a mutt some years ago by adding a strat neck for the SD look. I sold the mutt but I still have original neck with the 2 stamped on it.

I have an 89 650 and an 89 750 with a larger "2" stamped after the serial sideways--I always wondered what that means because there is not a big defect or at least an obvious one...

Okay, sorry for the delay. Here's the 2 stamped on my model 2 neck.

My JJP is stamped used on the back of the headstock. The dealer (AMS) sent it back to Jackson because of a paint flaw and they fixed it.Sad part is AMS pulled off the USA Jackson neck plate and put a flat one on.All correct factory info is still in the neck pocket.
                            Really? well screw Mark Twain.

It's my understanding that's not always done by Jackson, but by dealers who by 2nd-hand new old stock from another dealer so they don't have to deal with warranty issues.
Haven't had any "official" confirmation of this. I do seem to recall someone posting that they were told that by a store rep who had purchased the inventory of another store.

Might also be an indicator of a factory refurbish?
