  • Jackson JS String Nut or Neck Replacement

    Hi guys,

My son's JS string nut chipped of at low E string and it can't hold low E string any more. Do you know any place where I can find cheap string nut or neck replacement for this guitar.

If I don't find it soon, my SL-1 will suffer.

    Please advise.

Stewmac had relatively cheap black tusq nuts. I used a few, quality seems ok, It's fairly easy to replace it yourself, and they file easily. A new neck surely would cost a lot more.

Thanks Bobby8. Do you know exactly which one of those on their site might fit the best for JS1?

      Thx.

I think it was one of those for Gibson-style guitars, #1869. It may require a bit of filing on the sides, but it should fit. It is 16" radius as opposed to 12" you have, but you should have no problem. Other option would be for someone to make you a new one but it's also more costly option.

Thanks Bobby8. I will try that with filling–nothing to lose, right? I contacted my guitar repairman form our local guitar store and he told me it would be $40-$70 for him to make one from scratch using synthetic bone.

That seems a little steep to me. I would think you should be able to get one for half that.

Do you guys know of any other place that sells them for less? Do I need any special files for this?

                Thx.

Nothing special, if you have a set of two-bucks chinese made needle files, that would do
