I don't think there is any overkill with this guitar. And you could always put a more balanced pickup in the neck if you are concerned about it.

Bill Lawrence pickups are weird in that there are two companies associated with that name. Bill Lawrence and Bill Lawrence USA. The "USA" company is not owned by the man Bill Lawrence. Both versions of the L500XL appear to be pretty similar though. The USA version are more prevalent on ebay.
