  • Inspired by the Kelly project thread...

    ...I thought I'd post some pics from my KVX10 refinish/mod that I did a couple years back...

    How it looked originally;

    Dismantled;

    Pockets taped and lightly sanded;

    Bevels outlined with 3M plastic tape (leaves a much cleaner edge than regular masking tape);

    Taped up and ready to apply green base coat;

    To semi-steal a phrase from Chris Evans' Human Torch character, "GREEN ON!" ;

    Tape/paper removed;

    After clear coat;

    Side view;

    Other side;

    Upskirt ( );

    Paint done and new black hardware installed;

    Looking forward to my next project; a modded DK2/DKMG mutt. Got all the parts, now I just need to find the time...

        Great job and great choice in trim color What type of paint did you use and how long did the whole process take you?

          I used NEXA Autocolor 2K (by PPG) base and clear. One of the best polyurethane based systems I've ever used, however it's no longer made. Don't know what I'm going to use on future projects... And I think I worked on that guitar off and on over a period of 5 or 6 weeks.

            That looks killer! I think you should find some green metal pickup rings. I bet Budman does some.

                I just sanded down the clear a little... The guitar was new at the time, so there was no need to redo the black.

                  What colour did you use for the green? and how many coats of lacquer did you use? it looks really deep in the side on and upskirt shots!

                        3 coats of green base and 4 coats of clear (poly, not lacquer... ).

                            mmmhhh... really nice!
                            Though I like outdoor shots, I probably would have chosen a non-green background for this one.
                            But good work!

                            Interesting guitar stand as well, never seen one of these... What is it?

                              I know what you mean, but no matter how many squirrels and hobos I sacrifice to the gods of foliage, my grass and trees won't bloom in any other colours, LOL!!!

                              It's a GS700 'Catch-O-Matic' stand by a company called Nanyo. I bought it several years ago at a local music store (which has since gone out of business). Haven't seen a stand like it since...
