I just finished up cutting out the foam used to dress the bridge cavity. Gives it that "factory" look
This was the old foam:
Got this at the craft store (Jo-ann's or Michael's in the US)
Trim to fit:
Then (reverse) trace to foam backing:
Test fit:

My prints came in today, as promised:
I would like to comment on a few things here. First, take note of the scale I included on the upper part of the print. I checked with my ruler, and it is sized as I designed it, so each piece fits perfectly on the body/headstock - this is very important for obvious reasons. Second, take a look at that black edge burst! I'm such a cheater, but it's going to look way better than if I tried doing it with a rattle can (I've done it before - it's not fun)
As I mentioned before, Marc sent me 2 prints. The one shown has a protective laminate on top, and the other one does not. The non-laminated piece is probably half as thick as the laminated one, which *might* be better for this application, since I don't want a lip where the print meets the paint (the edge from top to side for example). If I accidentally sand through my clear coat into the laminated one however, I will not go through the inks. I do have 2 cans of clear though, so it should be easy to make a small edge disappear. Thoughts?
This is the name of the material, in case any of you are curious. It is used for car wraps, and it has a good amount of stretch to it, more if you apply a heat gun/blow drier, which is perfect for the light contours of guitar bodies.
These prints came out great, Marc at http://www.wrapvehicles.com/ is the man! His email responses were always quick (very important to me), and he made me feel like an important customer, even though my project is a drop in the bucket compared to the huge banners/vehicle/RV wraps that probably cost 100 times more. Can't wait to put this stuff on the body!Last edited by S1I2F3; 11-14-2011, 06:07 PM.

Applying the vinyl to the front of the body:
Note that there is some texture to the material, there is a cross thread going on (to help strengthen the material from shearing when stretched is my guess). Will not be a problem to clear over:
(Bridge is taken apart for cleaning)
Here you can see that "lip" I mentioned before. I'll sand it lightly to bring it down a bit, then I will paint over the edge just a bit to get rid of the white edge from the material. Then it should be ready for clear.
