The Fender ones (made by Schaller, I guess) are very good. Safer than Dunlop's. There's a mechanism that you need to LIFT instead of pushing. They look a little bulky but they're not. You "slide" it in and also there's the ball-bearing lock (how to resize the picture)?

Yes, they come with Dunlop Straploks, but I use Schaller, so I've replaced them. However, it's nice that they come stock with something else than regular strap buttons.

I have both Schaller and Dunlop straplocks and although the Schaller ones are a little less intrusive, i think the Dunlops are better for stability. Grover straplocks are similar to the Schaller ones but the locking bolt comes loose very easily, avoid.

I don't know how things work with importing stuff in Brazil... but if they are that expensive, wouldn't it still be cheaper to buy one from a US website and pay for shipping/import duties?

Jackson guitars are expensive here in Sweden as well, but not to the level that a KVXMG costs $1400. I feel for you bro, because that's a lot of money! That's almost USA Select pricing... for X-series guitars.

So here's a question for you: I did the same on my king v, but I've found that the Schaller screws are just a hair smaller (and the Dunlop one's wont fit). They stay in, but I'm constantly re-tightening them after every show/rehearsal. Did you have the same problem? Did you do anything to remedy it? I've heard shoving a toothpick or something in there helps with the extra slack?

Yeah, I never use the Schaller screws if I can help it, because they're always too small. Didn't the Dunlop screw heads fit in the Schallers'? Mine actually did, that's weird... Might have something to do with the actual straplocks I bought? I bought some at my local music store, with the package labeled "Supreme". They're exactly the same as Schaller, but they're marked "Made for Warwick Germany" instead of "Made in Germany Schaller USPAT.OBP".

I suspect that they're either actually made by Schaller... or made somewhere in Asia under Schaller patents?


However, I've had the same experience, and I remember even sanding the screw heads once, just to be able to use the original strap button screws. Perhaps a bit extreme and unnecessary... but it worked.

Lose the Dunlops. I loved them for stability as well until they started wearing out. They do wear out. I've worn out 2 pairs.

I caught it the first time it dropped. I just thought I didn't push the stud in far enough to lock. I did.

The second time, my $2000 custom Warwick Thumb bass hitting a concrete floor was not something I would wish on anyone else.

You're better off permanently attaching a strap. I shit you not.

That same thing happened to me! My Les Paul dropped twice while rehearsing! Thanks to Dunlop, I now have some seriously nice dents in the headstock. The nice thing about the Schallers is that you can position the clasp part on the strap so that the open section is facing away from the floor. To me that seems a little more stable than a few crappy ball bearings.


Now to just figure out this screw issue... Probably some metric to American issue. Damn you Ronald Reagan.

The problem with the Dunlops is that they act perfectly fine until that time they're worn out and then one day just "boom". Then, if you inspect it, everything locks tight and seems fine and you blame yourself. And soon after it randomly happens again, with me, it was about 2 or 3 weeks until the second incident. I had two different sets on two different basses using two straps. That's just how they die. They like taking really expensive equipment with them too.

I hate to say it, but I'm kind of glad I'm not the only one that this exact thing has happened to (sorry about your bass!). I half way thought I put them in wrong, or assembled them wrong, or something else. Too many damn little parts with 'em as well.

But anyway, that's a pretty good looking King V. I'm half way thinking about trying to find one for cheap to use as a backup.
