  • Import Kelly

I found a Kelly that could be a possible purchase, but all I have so far is the serial number (J010451)

Can anyone tell me anything from the serial number? I'm guessing approximate year?
Would it be a KE3 or a different model? I'll update with more info and any pics as I get them.

    Thanks for any help!

Sounds like a nech-thru model, or a bolt on that had no neck plate (i.e. screw inserts instead)

Kelly Pro, or Kelly XL maybe

Would not take it to be a KE3

    Maybe get some pics

With a serial number starting with J doesn't that mean it's a USA model?
It's all about the blues-rock chatter.

Sounds like a Professional PRO like ralph said, but I didn't think Kellys were available until later on (around 93/94 or so). I could be wrong though. That serial would put it at 1990. Definately some pics would help (or other info like neck-thru/bolt on, ebony/rosewood, etc).

No, only Jxxxx are USA's, Japanese neck-thru's can have a J serial with more digits, Japanese Neck-thru Charvels can have a C serial

My ke3 has no neck plate and the sticker on the back of the headstock says J008027. Probably a ke3, if the serial numbers progress through the years. In this case, I'd guess 97, maybe 96 as from 98 onwards they have neck plates.

Ah, didnt realise the early KE3's '96/'97 had no neck plates

Probably will say "Professional" on the headstock

              Cheers

Thanks for all the info, guys. As soon as I hear back from the seller, I will hopefully have a definite answer as to what it is.

Probably a KE3. Though, if it's got binding and real MOP inlays, it's an XL (or XLR if reverse MOP inlays and reverse headstock).

It should have reverse inlays and a regular headstock though.
