      Just to make shure:
      - counter clockwise -> untight
      - clockwise -> tight

      Right?
      Here is a cute saying that helps
      Lefty loosey, Righty tighty.
      turn left or counter clockwise to loosen.
      You are right to be cautious but I think all is fine with your screws. they were screwed in at the factory and haven't been moved since. Your looking at a metal screw that can rust being screwed into wood, which always has some sort of moisture. You want to make sure you have a smaller point on your screw driver but you will need a larger handle to apply enough force to unstick it. I would unscrew it first then try adjusting down. I'd say once you break it loose (and it will make a popping or cracking sound) you should be in good shape.
      Turn the volume to 10 and rip off the knob!

        I have the DKMGFF with SSH configuration. I have the middle one screwed into the body, I use it sometimes and I actually love the way this sounds, so it's a win-win!

          If I'm not mistaken, when I lowered my singles I had to turn clockwise. They turned easily. Make sure you use the right size screwdriver! Stripping one of those would not be good. I recently had that happen to me replacing the buttstock on an AK47. What a PITA!
