  • Used Grover Jackson King V

    Hi everybody !

I'm from Belgium and I've got the opportunity to buy an used Grover Jackson King V. I'm in love with Jackson's KV shape and I always wanted this guitar. That's why I'm asking you if this used guitar worths 799€ (more or less 1000 US $), the price asked by the seller who says it's a made in Japan model.

    Here's the specs :

    - Serial number : J100061
    - Same woods as a USA KV (Alder body, maple neck and ebony fingerboard)
    - Neck-through design
    - Seymour Duncan Blackouts pickups (not the original ones of course)
    - Original Floyd Rose tremolo system
    - 3 way toggle switch
    - One volume and one tone knobs
    - Jackson tuners
    - Metallic Black finish

    Some pictures :

Thanks in advance for your answers !

looks like its circa '91 MIJ KV custom. body material is poplar, not alder.
tremolo can possibly be Schaller with Jackson logo. its non-recessed mount btw.
this era is my personal favorite i own several soloists and love em.
worth 1000 USD? in my book yes, depending on condition.
catalog price of 200k JP-Yen translates into ... uh, you do the math. its your call.

1991 Made In Japan for the Japanese market. Comparable in build quality to a KV Pro from the same year, though those had Kahler bridges like Mustaine's.

I see this one has only 22 frets, though.

Depending on condition, $1000 USD is a fair price since prices for a used KV1, KV2, KV Pro, and pre-1990 King Vs are far higher, and because there's not many available for sale right now.

It's in an entirely different league to the X Series. Buy it.

Salut ! Saw that one on zikinf, a french forum.
I hesitated for a while and went for a KV2 instead, but it looks really good. Personnally for the price, I'd grab it. Otherwise Thomann has received some KV5 from japan, black with gold pins, just in case ..
