  • N(O)GD: Fusion Plus

I ran into an old friend yesterday. 10 years ago, I sold my first Jackson guitar to this guy. For the last 3-4 years I've come to think that I really should get it back from him, simply for sentimental reasons.

So when I met him yesterday, I asked if he still had the guitar (which he did) and spontaneously decided that I would come look at it today. So I did, and ended up taking it back home.

He hasn't really looked after it during the last 10 years... it was filthy, and I think I have a fair amount of work in front of me in order to get it to play good again. However it seems like it hasn't suffered any fatal damage. I just took a quick photo of it, I haven't cleaned it up or anything, but it doesn't look that bad in the photo.

    Gary-you'll remember this one!

It feels good to have it back though, considering it was my very first Jackson, and the guitar that led me to join the JCF in 2000.

That's a pretty cool looking guitar. Love the burst finish with the wood grain.

          Thanks guys!

I spent a good 3½ hours on Sunday just trying to get it cleaned up. The fretboard took me a little over 2 hours to get clean enough for me to wanna touch it without feeling like I've been digging around in the underpants of a homeless dude. It brought new meaning to the word filthy. Don't get me started on the smell...

Anyway, it looked really good when I was done. But I'll never understand how he managed the amount of pick scratches that are on the guitar. Is there something you could do to get them less visible, without drastic measures?

My energy ran out after I put new strings on, so I haven't set it up yet, but I'll do that coming weekend!

Sometimes, you can buff out pick scratches if they're not really deep.

Yep, that's the stock finish! Took a couple of pics 5 minutes ago since the sun is shining. I wanted to try and show it a bit better!

those last couple of pics really show off the finish! All these years I thought it was a tobacco burst - in sunlight it looks more like cherry.
