I'd love to do gold, but I think it would look better with black hardware based on the color scheme I'm doing. If I was going to finish it dark, I'd probably go gold.. Plus... I already have the hardware!

It'd look neat, but I'd consider and recommend pulling the fretboard; it'll help your headstock veneer go on more seamlessly (since it should go under the fretboard to look its cleanest), and will also help with the binding, should you decide to do it. Granted, there's probably a million ways to bind a neck, but I do the headstock first, and before the fretboard goes on. Like in this pic:



That method will give you the end result that Jackson has.

Got some more progress done. I've got the veneer stained now and drilled the tuner holes. Still cleaning up the trem cavity and truss rod area... Thinking about doing a natural binding like in the below pics.. Not sure yet... I had 1 crack right in the center on the veneer. Apparently burl is pretty prone to this.... I've got a pretty cool idea on how to take care of it...

Right now it's still the original deep red color. I'll change that to black soon enough.

Thanks guys. I am waiting patiently for the stain to dry (it's already dry, but I'm not taking any chances), then some sealer... Going for a lacquer finish, so when I start spraying, it'll be a month before I get to touch it again!

So far, the only thing I am out is about 5 bucks for the pint of stain. I ended up selling my TC Helicon Voicelive a while back for $200 (to help fund the DK2M purchase) and a sheet of 30" X 50" Bubinga Burl veneer.
