  • On Jackson imports, does the serial# tell country of origin?

Hope this is not a redundant post, but in my guitar shopping lately, I've been coming across quite a few Jackson imports in pawnshops and guitar stores, such as the Kelly I just bought. However, unless the sticker is still attached, which is almost never, I don't know where they are made. For example, at GC, there was a killer Dinky in a sort of orangeburst that I wanted, but since it had a sticker on it that said "Malaysia" (I think) I didn't buy it. Now, there is another one exactly like it in a pawnshop for quite a bit more money, same color, but no sticker. How can I tell if it's Japan or somewhere else? The only thing that makes me think it is a higher end one is that the neck looks to be quartersawn instead of flatsawn, but I don't want to pay $200 extra on a guess. Anybody help me with this? Thanks very much!

Should say India, not Malaysia, but anything's possible.

However, 6 and 7-digit serials on the neckplate indicate Made In Japan. Anything more than 7 numbers on the plate is India/Malaysia/Indonesia/not Japan/not USA.

Newc, again, thank-you for your help. It is so dang frustrating with the Charvel/Jackson import lines ever since the 80's. I've probably missed out on some really good deals because I didn't want to chance buying a cheaper version of something. Not sure why I didn't ask before.

Serial number formats have gone through lots of changes. There are some threads out there where both Newc & I explain the ins & outs.

Try searching serial number & my name.

There's also that big thread Serial Number Database

        or Serial number Sharing

that I have a lot of info on.

Cool, I will do that. And thanks very much for your help. You guys have always come through for me even though I don't come around that often anymore. Gotta change that.
