  • Played the(Chinese built) Scott Ian signature guitar today.

I took the week off from work to help keep my sanity and to keep from being bored I set myself up with a couple projects. While shopping for bits and pieces I went into Guiter Denter because my usual shop didn't have a set of strings I wanted. As always I go look down the wall of Fender, Epiphone, Schecter and so on to see a couple Jacksons. The JS's don't excite me so I was getting ready to leave and noticed the Scott Ian guitar hanging at the end of the top row. I asked the sales guy to let me play it and he got it for me. I plugged into a Vox 212 combo, can't remember what one. It was very light basswood, had a single Duncan Designed bridge pup and a tune-o bridge. It played okayish. The action was a little on the high side for me but that could be how it came to them, and who are we kidding the staff at the store has trouble with self grooming let alone setting up a guitar. LOL.. Didn't really take to it right off, it felt like a toy. Don't get me wrong I like a light guitar for a long night of playing. The neck was okay, I liked it. It def needed a different pickup in it. I think it had a $700 price tag on it, which seemed a little high to me. I would get one if the price was a little more in line for a CB guitar. Admittedly though I don't buy guitars for the paint job. It reminded me of a JS series guitar with a cool paint job and really cool inlays. I want to try out the new Charvel Desolution Soloist. I think the Mahogany will be a little better sounding to me I hope. I'm sure I left some stuff out, any questions fire away.
I want to go out nice and peaceful in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming and hollering like the passengers in his car.

I figured it would be a piece of crap for that kind of money. There's no reason it should be $700 for that. I mean what expense other than paint? And that could be an overlay. No Floyd. No name brand pickup. Not a great wood for the body. I'm sure it was a bolt on neck? So we're just putting money in Scott Ian's pocket. I'm just really torqued about some of these prices lately. Not just Jackson. But I was at GC on Saturday and there were two new epiphone lp's priced at $ 799 and $849 respectively. For a damn epiphone. Seems like the desolution series is a decent built guitar though. I'd like to check one of those out. Sorry for the rant, and thanks for saving me the hassle of playing the Scott Ian guitar.

I posted a thread a while back on these the graphic is a digitized overlay and not all that great.
Basswood body I assume with a maple neck thru? IDK for sure could be basswood who knows.
Not a bad guitar just way overpriced IMO for what it is.
It looks like a good platform to build on and add better parts.
        Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Thank you. I did not see your previous thread. I'm really pissed about the price of these. The desolation is a much better guitar for less

$550 isn't $700. $550 is a borderline price to me for a decent import guitar.

I played one of these last night too. Wasn't impressed at all. I mean, it probably needed a setup horribly, but it just felt crappy and looked cheap. The "ATL" inlay looks pretty damned ridiculous/hideous.

Gotta chance to try a couple Desolutions about a month ago and was really surprised with them. Absolutely loved the necks, and I haven't felt that way about an off the rack import in a long time. Still thinking about picking one up soon. Sorry to hear the Ian is a disappointment, was hoping to hear better about. A fanboy model, nothing more than that in the end. Hope they don't go the Dean route like Dean did with Dimebag.

I'm really hoping the Adrian Smith signature is a lot better guitar than Ian's.
