I wouldn't put a JB in because the DD HB102B in there now is a JB copy. Got for the Tone Zone or something other than a JB.

Mine had black hardware too it was a great guitar.
If the nut is creaking take the locking pads off and make sure the nut screws that mount it are tight and put the locking pads back on with peaks in line with the neck.
Those trems are fine and work great.Teflon tape on the trem studs is a great idea.
The DD pick ups in these sound great I never did a thing to mine.
      Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Well, I took the locking pads off, screwed the nut in a little tighter, took the back cover off and had a look at the trem there. The claw looks good, the springs seem to be in okay, they aren't exactly sitting in the grooves at the bottom of the trem block but they hold solid enough.

It's still not going back to pitch though sadly. I'm looking around the flat for lubricant and the only thing I have in is WD40, what do you guys think of that idea?
I think I might be better with something else like Guitar Grease?

            2. there is sometimes a bit of a "creak" when using the trem at the locking nut. I unlocked then and tuned the guitar so that the trem adjusters were all level and locked it up again and it's not done it since but this is also causing me to go "Hmmmm?".
Check to see if there is any gap between the nut and the fingerboard. It took me while for finally figure out that was where the creaking was coming from. I considered having the nut moved which would have required drilling new holes. Instead I shimmed the gap and voila the creaking stopped. I'll show it to my luthier the next time I bring him a guitar to see if it's proper workaround or if he would recommend to reposition the nut flush against the fingerboard. My other Jackson has the same creaking but it must be a miniscule gap because I have no tuning issues with that guitar. My Charvels have absolutely no creaking.

Thanks gerryl98, I'll have a look at that too.

The trem seems to have settled a little but I still get the occasional clunk, it's going to the shop for a visit I think.

                Congrats on the geetar.

I have a 580LP on a DXMG. Solid trem, don't believe the hate. It's no OFR, but it stays in tune pretty damn well.

Okay, so it's been to see my man in the shop and he took the locking pads off, tichtened the nut up some more, pulled the trem off, monkeyed around a bit and said "Your trem posts have got groves in them!". So it seems that I may need new trem posts as the short term fix has been to turn them around 180 degrees.

Can anyone tell me the part number for trem posts for a circa 2003 580LP?
