Have all the bugs worked out on my AS except the trem claw screws.Next string change I will do that.
I have played the shit out of it and its a solid player.
The neck is very very nice and it plays like a dream.
Old Super D and SDS 1 will go in next string change, going to leave the middle single in until I find an older SDS-1.
This guitar is a blast to play OFR special has been flawless.Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I am sooo close to grabbing one of those in maple.
I have no issues with upgrading the humbucker but wonder about the neck profile.
How does the neck compare to a MIJ CHarvel So Cal please?
I'm being told that the neck is a really thin 'C" shape. I was hoping for something a little more chunky really.

I just ordered mine, white with maple. Also ordered a pickguard blank for a white pickguard. I will make a thread about the transformation when it begins.
I assume these take regular F spaced pups? I was thinking a whiteout version...white/white/maple with white pups

Looks F spaced to me on the humbucker.
Neck is a thin C but feels good to me and I tend to like chunky necks.
Buy another well maybe when they pop up at a pawn shop at a better price.
Tuners are not very good at all but you do have a locking nut so not all that important in the long run.
The wide string spacing on the nut was my issue but a BH 2-3 size nut fixed that problem.BUT you will need to dowel the mounting holes for the nut and re-drill a touch closer to the board so there is no gap between the nut and fingerboard.
Mine plays great now that I spent some time fixing the little things.Last edited by straycat; 10-05-2012, 11:20 AM.Really? well screw Mark Twain.

If you can get past that...

NP a new maple board one is being sent to my house Wed of next week.Hopefully no issues.
I could have fixed the problems but hell its a new guitar I shouldn't have to.
Trem claw was drilled and installed too high, after I got the trem level the cover plate rubbed the trem claw not good.
Middle pick up had some issues and was quite loose.
Great sounding guitar overall and it played great.

Hi my names Tony, I got my Smithy the day it was released from a mates shop. Only issue I had was the action was way too high and when I lowered it the buzz was ridiculous. I also hated the neck pup so that went and a Hotrails went in there instead
This was pre pup change
Me jamming
After pup change and it proper wails

I started upgrading mine by putting in a Floyd Upgrades 42mm L trem block. Big difference in tone and response from the guitar. Little wonder really as the old block weighed 69g the new brass one is 236g !!
Fitting is was pretty straightforward. I wanted to restring it and do a setup anyway as well as taking the pickguard plastic off properly.

These are very mod worthy guitars and the upgrades I did make it a much better for my taste.
Waiting on the final SDS-1 before I do a pick up swap.I have a few dual rail singles but not really wanting to lose the single coil bell like tones.
Here are the trem claw screws I removed so you can see how bent both were.
I used Fender neck plate screws which are much stronger and the same diameter and length.Attached FilesLast edited by straycat; 10-29-2012, 11:09 PM.Really? well screw Mark Twain.

My first one was like that so I took it back and ordered the maple board version.
The second one wasn't as bad but still bent.
Easy fix anyway so no big deal.
I am enjoying mine a lot its a damn good guitar.Really? well screw Mark Twain.
