  • Found a Dinky on Ebay. Prototype?

I was looking around ebay today and saw this. Maple board, offset dots, real duncans, no pickup rings, silverburst.

It kind of looks like those pics that Jackson put up on their facebook a little while ago except for the control placement and it isn't an archtop. The country of origin is listed as Indonesia.

Maybe a copy of some sort? I like the direct mount pups and maple board. The paint job isn't the prettiest but who cares color doesn't add tone. It's clearly a Dinky, well maybe but they called it a Soloist Dinky. Is that like a Nova Chevelle? lol
I want to go out nice and peaceful in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming and hollering like the passengers in his car.

      Looks nice enough.

Yeah, if it's a copy someone went through a lot of trouble to make it look decent.

It's probably just labeled as "Soloist Dinky" to get more people looking at it in a search. I've seen lots of Dinkys advertised as Soloists on Ebay in the title of the listing.

Thats kinda neat. If the neck is as good as the 90s DRs it'll be nice after a good setup
          It's pronounced soops

maple neck, offset dots, black binding, direct mount pickups....can't see the heel all that good in the auction, but it looks like it might be one of the ones posted by Guitar Lawyer in this thread

Yeah, looks like a modern version of a DR. This is probably part of that new line that's being built (by Samick?) in Indonesia. There's nothing about it on the Jackson site. I'd love to know the serial #

Lots of new stuff coming out of Jackson these days. Really nice to see after losing the MIJ Pro line last year and the number of models taking a nosedive.

Is that a Floyd Rose Special? I'm assuming it's not an OFR. I also love that Jackson is matching headstocks to the body again on imports. I wonder how it plays.

It also bothers me when when people say that "the neck is straight" like in this auction. A perfectly setup guitar will have a neck that bows slightly out

The only thing that I see as a little odd is it having Seymour Duncans not Duncan Designed, the Jackson labelled solid covered pickups, can't remember what they're called off the top of my head or no label open humbuckers that usually adorn Jacksons from Indo. I do like it though.

Are they afraid of using alder?

                            $$$$$

Basswood is abundant and cheap. To get Alder to these factories in the far east it would have to be shipped there. Not very efficient. That being said, some different wood choices would be cool.
