This ebay listing just strikes me as odd.
Edit: Ok, I guess some models do have the blade in between the knobs. I don't know of any Dinkys like that, though. I'm probably wrong there too though, lol.Last edited by groverj3; 08-13-2012, 03:47 PM.

Not a fan of the black binding on the maple. I would like it a lot more without the binding.
This is funny. The description just above the pictures says, "BRAND NEW, 2 SEYMOUR PUPS, KAHLER, EASY PLAYER."Breaking Point, my all instrumental CD available here:

My only basswood comparisons I've played are a cheap Ibanez bolt on (don't know what model) that was pretty lightweight and sounded like crap, JDR-Pro MF exclusive with Kent Armstrong OEM pups that was very lightweight and sounded like crap, and my brother-in-laws Ibanez RGT6EXFX which is heavy and sounds awesome with EMG 81/85. I worry it's hit or miss with basswood and normally shy away from it. But I hope for the best with the new Jacksons.Every man dies... Not every man really lives!!

i have a cheap Ibanez that is Basswood, and it sounds pretty good to me,
Also have a USA Jackson Dinky custom ('94) that is Basswood, and this sounds killer
IMO quite often people who bash basswood, haven't played a decent basswood guitar, i do agree that it seems to be more hit and miss than other woods used (alder, mahogany etc)
Arent JEM's made out of basswood?

I'm going to get flamed, but my limited physics knowledge (I slept through a lot of lectures, lol) tells me that most of your tone comes from your pickups anyway. Wood affects it somewhat, but wiring and pickups have a much bigger effect IMHO. I'm going with 80% pickups 20% or less wood. JEMs, JPs, and countless other high end guitars are made from Basswood. I'm not really concerned with the wood choice when it's mostly about keeping the price reasonable. Besides, the neck is still maple so it's not like it's all basswood or anything.

I think basswood is great. I've owned some Ibanez basswood guitars and my Dinky XL is basswood, it's a great sounding guitar and I honestly can't notice a difference between my basswood and alder Jacksons tone wise. There is also varying densities and qualities of the same type of wood, which probably affects tone. My USA DK1 Alder body weighs significantly more than any DK2 I've played, granted the DK1 does have a maple cap.
As groverj3 stated, 80% pickup and 20% wood with tone, I'm going to have to say that wood is significantly more. For example I love the EMG81 in my alder guitars, but I think the EMG81 sounds like absolute garbage in my Kevin Bond Sig and Gibson Explorer, which are both neck thru mahogany.

One of the problems that I had with a few rg ibanezs were the pots. I swapped pickups between 2 guitars. both sets sounded great in the schecter c+ but both sounded horrible in the ibanez. Maybe the basswood body was partly to blame but those pots are the worst I've ever seen.
You need a brighter pickup with basswood IMO. Like the J90C or the Seymour Duncan distortion.
Since many of us love the model series charvels we do like basswood.
