  • Need advice on getting a DK2T mail order

I've been looking for a particular DK2T, the orange "October Pearl" that was one of the last models MIJ. The serial number is 7 digits, starting with 9853, so if I'm not totally nuts, that's one of the new(er) ones Ive been looking for. The few I've found online are very pricey, $650 and up. None to be found locally. A Guitar Center on the east coast (I'm in Dallas) has one, used, with case for $402 shipped. They claim it's in great shape with a small scratch under the bridge and a "scuff" on top. I'm nervous about that as I'm one of those incredibly anal guys that weeps at the mention of a damaged finish.

Putting my finish fetish aside, is $400 a decent price for a used but recent MIJ DK2T?

    Thanks
    Dave

Always look at the completed auctions section on the 'bay:

    There is your answer.

Looking at auctions for pricing is part of my problem. If the guitar is a "JSxx" or it has dot markers in different zip codes at the twelfth fret, I figure it's a 3rd world country guitar, not what I want, and should be cheap. But so many guitar models aren't specified, or it just says "Dinky", that I'm not sure what to believe. Am I looking at a real MIJ DK that auctioned for $200 or an entry level thing that I don't want for $200 ?? My own lack of Dinky experience is causing problems for me as I often can't tell the good from the bad by an ebay picture and a generic description that may or may not be totally inaccurate.

        A DK2T will have:

Jackson pointy headstock, standard (pointing down)
        24 frets
        Bound rosewood fretboard
        Bound headstock
        Pickup config: H-H
        MOTO (plastic) sharkfin inlays
Serial number 7 digits long, starting with 96, 97 or 98
"Quiet, numbskulls, I'm broadcasting!" -Moe Howard, "Micro-Phonies" (1945)

At least with GC you can return it if your not happy. I've bought a couple of guitars from their used site and they were always accurate with the description and condition of the guitar. If your worried about the condition, ask if they will send you better pics/ close up of the scratch and scuff mark. One thing I do recommend is if they are shipping it, get a case. You can ask if they have any used ones, they sold me a nice tkl case for a Jackson I wanted shipped for $25.

Have you looked at zoo music down on Garland Rd. they have a pretty good selection of Jackson's. There are 2 stores on garland rd but you need to go to the smaller store. They had an orange one in there a few weeks ago.

If I remember correctly GC won't ship a guitar unless it's in a case.
I want to go out nice and peaceful in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming and hollering like the passengers in his car.
