  • Jackson Professional Knob question

    Hi,

I have a Jackson professional and I have a question about the knobs.

The guitarI have looks like the one on the left in this picture:

It has 3 pickups and the double coiled pickup has a plastic cover. It also has the battery which I read is for the active EQ.

I really don't know what the third knob on this guitar does. If I turn it to 0 and I go to pickup postion 2 I get a really nice strat sound. I would like to better understand what that knob does. I pretty much either put it at 0 or 10. I really like the sound with this knob on 0 and it gives the guitar a single coil sound that I associate with a strat.

Thanks for any info on that 3rd knob.

    Steve

The 3rd is just a tone knob, unless the guitar has been modified...

It seems like the second knob is the tone knob. The 3rd knob I thought had something to do with the active EQ. It hasn't been modified at all. I bought it brand new. It definitely gets more strat sounding when I turn that 3rd knob down to 0.

My bad.. Actually the Ad says 'Volume, Mid, Tone'. Does any of the knobs push/pull? I am guessing it's like the Ad says.. Volume, then Mid, then Tone.

          No, none of them pull.

It sure seems to me like knob number two is tone. It goes totally low end when I put it to zero. Similar to putting the tone on my Les Paul to zero. But that 3rd knob is odd. It increases the volume when you put it up to 10. If I hit a note and crank that knob up to 10 the volume swells. It actually sounds like it might be a mid boost. But putting it to 0 has the very cool effect of making the guitar sound very strat like.

Have you opened the cavity to look at the wiring? Can you post a pic of it?

Should be volume, tone, mid boost.
