  • NGD - Scored an RR5 in a trade

Traded my Les Paul Studio Satin with black hardware and Dimarzios for what I think is a 2006 RR5. Got it from a buddy who said he just couldn't get into the feel of a Jackson. I'll miss the LP, but the RR5 plays really well. Looks like someone threw a Duncan Invader in the bridge as well.

New one. Really dig the paint job and gold hardware.

He probably got the better of the trade as far as money worth, but IMO the RR5 is a waaaaay better player.

Yeah, I'll agree. While the 60s neck on the Gibson did feel really nice, I can already tell the RR5 is more suited to the stuff I do.

And I don't know, money wise it seems pretty even to me. I paid $800 for the LP brand new in 2010 and put a bit of work into it - including drilling out larger post holes to fit a Gotoh bridge. There's a new RR5 on Musician's Friend for $1300 too, which seems waaaay over priced, but that's what they're asking.

RR5's are usually aournd $500 or so new. I've seen them higher if they are in good shape. I overpaid for mine at the time, $600, but I just had to have it.

Either way, all that matters is that you like it.

        Personally, I love the RR5.

For me the RR5 was a gateway drug to my RR1T. I loved it but knew I really wanted the USA in my heart so I returned it and waited a few months for my order to be filled.

Yeah, $500 new for an RR5 would be an awesome deal. RR3 for $500 new seems more like it. I agree with Rich - $500 - $700 for a used RR5 seems about right.

Even an RR3 for $500 new would be a steal. I'm seeing some of the "small batch" ones retail for about a grand new.

Used Les Paul Studios are in the same $500-$700 category. So like I said, totally square deal. No winners or losers here at all. Just a Jackson for a Gibson.

lol. I found my RR5 for $600 but I just HAD to have it. I'd say $500 would be a decent price now days.

I need to start playing it more. That thing screams

I love my RR5. If I remember, I got it for 700 a few years ago used.

                        Nice score!

I got my RR5 for $350 used but the thing was dead mint and even still had the plastic on the tuners and truss rod cover. Someone obviously bought it and didnt play it ever. I wet myself when I got it because, to me, it looked every bit as brand new as when I got my KV5FR which I paid $565 brand new for on eBay. Was a guy in NYC that was selling the KE5, KV5 and RR5s for $565 shipped with a case. If I had the $$ at the time I would have bought one of each.

How is "in good shape" worth more than "new"? lol
Dude, you're not going to find ANY RR5 for $500.
                              Maybe an RR3 ...
