On mine the flame is on the back.
It's good to know I can keep the boost and change out the pups. I was a little concerned about that since I'm not a huge fan of the HZs these don't sound half bad though, I may just keep 'em in, at least for awhile.

So is my memory screwed up orr did these necks ever come with a DXMG body (without the archtop)?
I believe they did. There is a Dinky body version out there.

Ok, after playing this thing for a few days, I gotta say, I'm liking it a lot. Te boost gets a little farty in the lower registers and it could use a good setup (just haven't gotten around to it yet) but aside from all that, I'm thinking it was well worth 2 bills. It's looking like its about time to start thinning the heard though. I've been collecting too many guitars lately. LOL

How do you like the inlays? I'm undecided about having so much wood chopped out of the fretboard.

Actually, I don't mind it at all. There is plenty of sustain and the fretboard feels great. I was a little concerned about getting lost on the fretboard because admittedly, I tend to rely on the markers more than I should, but that hasn't been an issue either. I have band practice today so this will be the first chance I'll have of playing it in a band situation. I'll post more on that later..

It was a fairly painless swap out actually, everything was wired up clean so it was just a matter of pulling and replacing 2 wires for each pickup. The EMG boost is a little better for me than the JE1200. (Not taking account the JE-1200 was voiced for the pickups of the day and matched perfect with the in-house pickups. Well, I have direct experience with the J-80c's at least.) It seems pretty flat and there is more than useable amounts of boost on tap, especially when you have a pretty hot pickup to start with.

For me I found it seemed the HZ's were trying to be voiced somewhere between humbucker and single coils. They were kind of a bit hollow sounding without the boost. So I'd use the boost to add fullness to it but then the bottom would get flubby. With the Duncan's it's like I have a great normal sounding guitar that has a built in OD pedal.

That sounds like what I need to do. Thanks for the info.. The volume pot is really scratchy so I'll probably be changing it out soon, so I might as well swap the pups while I'm at it. It'll most likely have to wait till holiday recovery is well underway though. I was going to swap out the EMGs in an ESP I got earlier in the year, but I'll probably end up just selling it to further support my GAS . LOL

The This one did really well in practice yesterday, except for the scratchy pot causing the volume to drop out a couple of times. I really like the versatility it brings, especially with the boost switch..

Y'know? Now that I think of it. I've got a set of chrome pup rings that I got for my Epi Les Paul that didn't fit. If they fit this guitar, they'd prolly look pretty cool.. Hmmmm...

I have one of the cobalt blue DKMGT's from a MF blowout sale. I have swapped the pups a few times, but the boost always stays in. Right now a have a pair of SD Invaders in it. A first run pup in the bridge and one of the more recent ones in the neck. I need to swap out the tuners and bridge. I think the weakest part of the entire guitar is the tuners. I didn't really mind the HZ's. When I pulled them, they sold right away.

I agree, the tuners are weak. I figured it was just because I was use to floyded guitars, but even my epi les paul has fewer tuning issues. Not that it's bad, but the G string (Why is it always the G string? ) seems to go out a lot more...
