  • Another Refin project

    I always wanted a Sea Foam Green guitar, so I knew what my next refin would be. This was the closest color I could get off the shelf, so I went with it. Not exactly sea foam, but pretty close, and I love the color.

    I went with the Hetfiield set for pups, since I couldn't find anything else local after x-mas. But I think I actually like them.

    I had something really weird happen with this one. After I let it dry for a couple of weeks, and after I wetsanded and buffed it, the next day, the finish kind of crackled. It has these strange lines in the finish all over the place. It almost seems like the clear is too thin and it cracked like ice in certain spots.

    What did you finish it with> Poly? Lacquer? And did you strip it down or just rough up and paint over what was there?

      Rattle cans. Base and clear. I sanded the origianl finish, but tried not to break through to bare wood. Laid a layer of white primer before base coat.

        Were the paints the same type. I know you cant mix enamel and lacquer or it will crackle.

          yeah they were. Usually they crackle right when they mix, as soon as you spray.

          I'm keeping it like that, it makes it look like it's an original paint job, almost "relic'ed"

            Good call! I did a job with cans and used this crackle to my advantage.

            Those pickups look hot too!

              I was worried about the exposed poles on a Dinky, but I actually like them. And the black chrome is friggin badass looking.

                    Sounds like EMG's to me. Slightly scooped I guess? I can't tell the difference between any of the EMG's.

                    But they are pretty hot with an OD pedal, I can tell you that, lol.

                      @Tim - cleaned out!

                      Thanks, I was looking at a het set, as the hetfield fanboy in me never seems to die, but I couldn't figure out from the videos on the EMG site how they are different from the regular models.
